Test Case Renovation! More than slapping a fresh coat of paint on those old test cases, we are going to talk about how to identify and address the most common issues, including ones you might not expect. In this session, we are going to focus on test cases, the foundation of much of QA. It is easy to wind up with hundreds or thousands of tests with known or suspected problems without a clear path to sorting it out. This presentation will cover time effective approaches to identifying problematic test cases and turning them in to fast, high quality test cases anyone can run. Some of the test case issues we will look at are going to be clear and others are hidden dangers that may be harder to find without looking for those dangers specifically.
The potential test case issues that will be discussed include writing style, knowledge silos, lack of tracing and tracking, and gaps in test coverage. This presentation will show how to mitigate those problems on an ongoing basis through peer review /cross training, Wiki references, management systems, and requirements analysis / gap analysis. Bring your own test case challenges too! Time will be set aside for small group discussion and problem solving using these tools!
