Testing the Manifesto

Paul Herzog, West Monroe Partners

About the Topic

Agile principles and associated approaches to software development have been in existence for nearly the entire 21st Century. And yet, teams are still unsure of how to integrate testing as not only specific tasks, but as an extension of the philosophies and mindset which produces the Agile Manifesto in the first place.  As a result, teams either ignore testing, test less than is necessary by staying on the “happy path”, or in some cases, dramatically overtest through 20th Century behaviors and attitudes toward software quality.  In this session, Paul will take a trip back to the very beginning by walking us through the values and principles behind the Agile Manifesto and provide recommendations for each of them to ensure testing has a balanced voice in Agile organizations.  By connecting specific actions to the general principles, you will come away from this session with a fresh understanding of how to test and deliver quality on your current and future projects.

Key Learning Objectives

  • A deeper understanding of the values and principles of the Agile Manifesto
  • Recommendations for how to work within the 12 Principles as a software test professional
  • Specific “do’s and don’ts” real-world examples which will be important actions to try within your teams
