Continuous Quality: What Software as Service Means to QA
Jeff Sussna
About the Topic
The post-industrial service economy is driving profound changes in the nature of work, business, and corporations. These shifts create tremendous challenges and opportunities for IT. In particular, they drive dramatic shifts in the roles, perspectives, and skill sets of QA Engineers. Testers must become software engineers in their own right. At the same time, they need the ability to understand and validate operational concerns such as security, scalability, resilience, etc. In a software-as-service world, QA's ultimate job is to help IT organizations understand the customer's job-to-be-done and ensure they satisfy customers' needs for deliverability and serviceability. This talk will describe the trends driving new approaches to business and IT. It will provide a detailed introduction to the new role QA needs to play in response to these trends. It will describe testing tools and techniques applicable to software service delivery, and will also explore ways QA can help connect Development and Operations more directly to the business and the customer.
Key Learning Objectives
Participants will gain a better understanding of the special requirements of software delivered as service
Participants will gain an understanding of the new skills required of QA engineers in DevOps/Continuous Delivery organizations
Participants will gain an understanding of how QA Engineers can use new skills, roles, and activities to provide greater value to software-as-service organizations, and play a more integral role within those organizations
